Archer's YMCA TownLake Challenge

About Archer's YMCA TownLake Challenge

Archer Hadley challenges each of us bipeds to recognize how un-flat the world really is. Trade your feet for wheels and try to navigate your world from a wheelchair. We will provide the wheelchair and the transformative experience. You bring an open mind, and a willingness to try something amazing. Observers can participate too! We’re raising money and awareness and your donations make all the difference to our success.

For the first time, the YMCA of Austin is partnering with Archer’s Challenge to create an immersive kick-off event that celebrates and promotes accessibility in public spaces for all. Challengers at the kickoff event will be able to participate in several in-chair team and solo activities and enjoy outdoor music, food and fun from 8 a.m. to noon. Activities at the TownLake Y include participating in a wheelchair weights class, a solo workout using accessible and adaptive equipment, using the pool facilities through a series of transfers, and a 3.25-mile relay roll around the Town Lake trail (the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake).

The YMCA TownLake Challenge will directly benefit YMCA of Austin’s Camp Cypress, a new day and overnight camp, will welcome people of all incomes and abilities. $50,000 will enable Archer's Challenge build 2 fully accessible cabins. A single $500 donation would provide one canoe, providing lots of fun on the waters of Onion Creek. $200 will provide one set of bows and arrows for the archery range. $100 would support one garden bed in the Camper Learning Garden. $50 will provide a chicken for the livestock corral.
